This brand-only stance is specific to GLP-1. Compounded semaglutide and tirzepatide are restricted, and are lawful only when a documented clinical difference cannot be met by an FDA-approved product. Cost, insurance denial, and patient preference are not lawful clinical differences.
For the vast majority of patients, the FDA-approved branded product, Wegovy®, Zepbound®, or Mounjaro® (and Ozempic® where T2D is the indication), is the right standard of care. That is why our GLP-1 program prescribes the branded product rather than compounded semaglutide or tirzepatide. In other Vayra programs, your physician may prescribe an individualized, physician-directed 503A compounded option when it is clinically appropriate, determined at your visit (503A preparations are not FDA-approved).
